The headrace tunnel is 830m long, its diameter with an aperture of more than 8m, passing through the low-lying area of Iatran stream with bad geology and potential risks. Previously, the construction of this item mainly get support from the Russian Federation experts, but for this project, it is entirely Vietnamese engineers and workers.

The completion of the diversion tunnel is an important prerequisite for the expansion Ialy Hydropower Power Plant project to be completed promptly.
In terms of general construction schedule of the whole project, so far the timing schedule is being complied with strictly. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic and the influence of political conflicts in the world, the price of materials higher than the bidding time, the joint venture of contractors has made great efforts to operate and construct on the site, and many items were ahead of schedule by 1-3 months compared to the approved schedule. The consulting and supervision of construction quality is ensured to meet the specification.
The Client and the contractors also strengthen supervision and urge the construction through 15 supervision and security control cameras installed by the contractor at the construction site. The images are transmitted to the monitoring screen of the Project Management Board and the phones of relevant officers.
The Client of the expansion Ialy Hydropower Plant project is Vietnam Electricity, with the direct management is Power Project Management Board 2, and the main design consultant is Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 (EVNPECC1), construction and installation contractors include Lung Lo Corporation, Truong Son Construction Corporation, Song Da Corporation, Vietnam Import-Export and Investment Joint Stock Corporation, LiLama 10 Joint Stock Company, and many contractors providing hydro-mechanical equipment, electro-mechanical equipment, instrumentation consultant, environmental monitoring consultant, health safety consultants…
The project was built in Ya Tang commune, Sa Thay district, Kon Tum province, and Ia Mo Nong, Ia Kreng communes, Ialy town, Chu Pah district, Gia Lai province with a total investment of 6,398 billion VND. The purpose of the project is generating unit 1 in the second quarter of 2024; Generating unit 2 in the third quarter of 2024, and completing the project in December 2024.
