The project’s total investment is more than 1,564 billion VND with the scale: New construction of 500/220/35kV substation, capacity of 2x900MVA, with the back-up location for installing 3rd transformer when necessary; construction of 220kV 04 circuit and 02 circuit overhead transmission line, ACSR500/64 conductor from 500kV Lao Cai substation to the transferred connection point to the existing 220kV Bao Thang – Yen Bai transmission line, route length is 17.52 km. The capital loan supplied for the project includes 80% from the local commercial bank and 20% counterpart fund from EVN..

This is the special grade energy project, group B, the Client is EVN. Power Project Management Board 1is assigned to manage the project and PECC1 is assigned to prepare a Feasibility Study (FS) report for construction investment, prepare construction investigation and basic design. Previously, in this project, PECC1 participated in investigation consulting serving for the F/S report, environmental impact assessment report and the specialized report on forests.
The investment and construction objective of the project:
- Clearing the capacity of power sources in the Northwest and surrounding areas, supporting electricity import when necessary.
- Reducing the load for the existing 500kV Son La - Hiep Hoa, Son La - Nho Quan lines, ensuring power supply for the growth load demand and energy security of the National Power System.
Project perspective designed by PECC1 engineers
The implementation schedule and project investment are divided into two phases:
- Phase 1 (from 2021 to 2022): Completing the 220kV switchyard at minimum scale to connect the existing 220kV Bao Thang - Yen Bai transmission line and 220kV transmission lines invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation with the same schedule; Completing the 220kV connection lines, 35kV transmission lines and substation for auxiliary power supply from the local power grid.
- Phase 2 (from 2023 – 2024 as expected, in line with 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line): Installing 02 500kV power transformers, installing 500kV switchyard equipment, 02 220kV incomer bay, compensators for the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line and completing the substation.
